History of Crowley

Crowley is a city that grew slowly over time. It was first settled around 1848 when a handful of pioneers began farming near Deer Creek. However, their settlement was moved to present-day Crowley when the Santa Fe Railway came through the area in 1885. The town was named Crowley after the railroad's Master of Transportation, S.H. A post office was built in the town during 1882, and a church was constructed in 1895. During these early years of growth, Crowley was primarily dependent on the railroad and farming. The first school was built during 1905, and it had a total of around 120 students. Today, Crowley is a thriving community with over 12,000 residents and more than 300 large and small businesses.
